Android 10 emulator (default AVD) — 439 ppi, 440 dpi (xxhdpi)
The default Android 10 emulator image is a Pixel 3 profile at 1080×2160 with a 440 dpi density setting. It is the configuration most Android 10 tutorials and screenshots assume, which makes it the right baseline if you are following older documentation.

Density on the Android 10 emulator (default AVD)
Note that 440 dpi is not one of the standard buckets — it is a device-specific density that Android maps to xxhdpi for resource selection while still using 2.75× as the scale factor. This distinction trips people up constantly.
What layout it actually gets
Dividing 1080 by the 2.75× scale gives a logical width of roughly 393 dp. If you set density to a round 480 instead, the width becomes 360 dp and layouts will shift, which is a common cause of 'my emulator does not match my screenshots'.
Practical notes
When you change the emulator density, change it with 'adb shell wm density 440' rather than editing the AVD config, so you can undo it with 'wm density reset'. A stale density setting survives emulator reboots and is easy to forget.
