Pixel 4a — 444 ppi, 440 dpi (xxhdpi)
The Pixel 4a is a useful counter-example to the current flagship trend: 1080×2340 at 5.81 inches gives it a noticeably higher ppi than much larger phones, because the same pixel count is packed into a smaller panel. Sharpness is a function of pixels per inch, not total pixels.

Density on the Pixel 4a
That higher ppi still resolves to the xxhdpi bucket with a 3× scale, so the logical layout is the same class as a modern Pixel even though the physical density is higher. Android deliberately keeps scale factors coarse so that layouts stay consistent across hardware.
What layout it actually gets
The logical width lands near 393 dp, slightly wider than the Pixel 7 despite the smaller screen, because the density scale is the same and the physical width is the same. That is a good illustration of why dp width and physical size are not the same thing.
Practical notes
Old compact phones like this one are the best test for touch target sizing. A 48 dp target is physically smaller in millimetres here than on a 6.8-inch phone, so if your controls feel cramped on a 4a they will feel cramped in real hands.
